We were trying to create differnet typefaces which related to the era in which we are interested us. I chose the 1950s and in particular the old hollywood glamour of the period. I began by thinking about sign language. I planned to change the background colour to a 50s palette however after I had scanned Sophies hands using the scanner I liked the effect of the black background. I then began to look at the typical typeface of the 1950's. I specifically looked at the mastheads of 50's magazines such as 'Bazaar'. I began to sketch out the letters and filled them in with black ink. I then used the sewing machine to go over the letters with cream cotton. I then continued to look at the magazine titles. I cut out letters from magazine and arranged them into the words. I also used some lace to add variation to my words.
